Initiative#9 : Pitch? Fail. Pitch! Fail. Well, PITCH again.

I pitched my blog to 9 random strangers today. Why you ask?

Well…in addition to doing an Initiative challenge everyday AND writing about it, I’m also taking up Darren Rowse’s 31 Day Blogging Challenge thanks to Holly who emailed me about it at almost the last minute.

In essence I will be doing a blogging task everyday for 31 days to improve my blog. This is a concentrated effort, a sort of blogging boot camp to give myself a headstart into the world of blogging and building communities. I honestly gave a lot of thought to this over the weekend, asking myself if I really wanted to do this. I went into the forum, poked around, saw some things I liked and some I didn’t quite get…overall this challenge gave me a good vibe.

Besides over 300 fantastic WOMEN were doing this. How could I not hop on the bandwagon? :) :) :)

** Rubs hands gleefully and starts scheming **

And I must say: I’m off to an exciting start. Today’s task was to write an elevator pitch for your blog. I took it one step further and actually pitched it to several strangers over the course of today to further refine mine. Ha I learnt about a different kind of hilarious today.

Having this elevator pitch in mine really helped me to focus more on what my blog was about and how it could enhance a life, meet a need, or solve a problem. The beauty about elevator pitches is that one continues to refine them; every change is a show of subtle growth.

Here’s my short 10 sec elevator pitch:

I’m doing one thing everyday that changes me for 180 days in hopes of demolishing my fears, opening more doors, and finding more nuances in life. And I write about every story, success, and struggle in this blog Initiative180.com

My longer elevator pitch :

This blog Initiative180.com is my playground. Here, I write honestly and candidly about taking the initiative to face my fears and open the doors of opportunity. Inspired by the immortal words of Eleanor Roosevelt, I’m doing one thing everyday that ‘scares’ me…for 180 days.

The operative word here is the ‘doing’ because in essence the doing is scarier and a lot harder than the ‘scary’. Who am I not to take charge of my own life and start improving areas of my life that I’ve long neglected or shoved on to my piling to-do list?

What question, need, or problem is my blog set out to solve?

The reason why we don’t take initiative, the reason why we choose complacency and comfort over the unfamiliar, the reason why we are distant towards strangers and wonder why we don’t have as many friends. I question monotony; why can’t we take just 5 minutes to do something everyday that ‘scares’ us, that’s outside of our comfort zone?

Who is this blog targeted towards?

Anyone who has tasted the poison of regret and the stung of a lost opportunity, anyone who’s taken the initiative to do something outside of their comfort zone and has felt the buzz of accomplishment.

Thanks Darren, STIS, and Blog Frog, and especially Nirvana Mamma for coming up with this awesome blogging challenge!

What an amazing idea for a blog! I love the idea, and “tasted the poison of regret” is so eloquent. Your elevator pitch sounds perfect. I can tell from this post there is a ton of thought behind it.

I’m doing the Problogger challenge also, and I had a very hard time with the elevator pitch. I think you did a fantastic job!

Thank you! I’m a really private person..to be honest I hate writing for someone else because I’m so afraid of criticism. Thank you for your encouragement. I actually tried my pitch on at least..4 people (and these were the willing listeners..) Am going over to your blog now and checking it out! Thanks again!

Thanks for the kind words about my blog. I love the look of yours, so clean, almost like a newspaper. What style are you going for? What do you think you would like?

To get my button, you just highlight the code and past it onto a html add on in your sidebar.

A few suggestions – you might want to set it up so when you comment on someone’s post, your email is available so they can just email you the response. Also, I think there is a way where you can set up an email alert that notifies the commenter that you replied to the comment they left on your blog.

You sound just like me about a year ago. I was at a turning point in my life where I had to decide if I was going to stay comfortable and never grow, or face my fears and learn to deal with them. I think your blog concept is awesome. I like that you are challenging yourself every day, because you’ll be amazed when one day you look back at the first day of the challenge and find you are a completely different person. I bet you end up more fulfilled and self confident by putting yourself out there. I definitely did. I still have fears, and lots of them. I’m just learning to not let the fear keep me from doing what I love. Oh…and your writing style is lovely. You’re a natural writer. I’ll give you some tweet love tomorrow. I hope I re-motivated you.
